Java Republic wins the highest accolade in the Great Taste Awards 2015
The original Irish hand-roasters, Java Republic, have been awarded the highest accolade in the Great Taste Awards 2015 with three stars for its Rwandan coffee as well as star awards for 6 other products in its tea and coffee range. Java Republic is the only company in Ireland to have been awarded three stars this year.
Organised by the Guild of Fine Food in the UK, Great Taste is the world’s largest and most trusted food and drink awards where food and drink products are put to the test with a panel of over 450 experts including buyers, food writers and retailers. Winners can be awarded one, two or three stars.
Java Republic’s winning product is a Light Roast, 100% Rwandan Nyungwe Coffee that is full bodied with hints of green apple and red currants that are typical of Rwandan coffees.*
Commenting on their choice of the Rwandan coffee to enter the awards Grace O’Shaughnessy, Managing Director of Java Republic said,
“Whilst a relatively small contributor to the world coffee market, Rwandan coffee is big business for it’s nearly 500,000 coffee growing families. Rwanda produces some excellent coffees with typical flavours ranging from cocoa to fruity red berries. We wanted to source a top quality Rwandan bean and roast it to bring out the best flavours of a true Rwandan coffee. We specifically chose to enter this coffee for Great Taste Awards 2015 as we felt the high quality of the green bean coupled with our roasting expertise truly represents what Java Republic’s vision is all about – delivering the best coffee experience on the planet. We couldn’t be happier with this award!”
The judges said the Rwandan coffee is” lovely even roast with a powerful initial hit that develops into a rounded, spicy, full flavour that has touches of fennel or artichoke and charred red peppers or paprika. The clever sweetness sits so long and gentle on the finish.”

1 star – Organic Jasmine Green Tea
1 star – Pedra Redonda Coffee
1 star – Organic Peppermint Tea
1 star – Organic Irish Breakfast Tea
1 star – Ponto Alegre Coffee
