The Java Journal
Watch Out Dublin, Here Comes World of Coffee.
One tiny cherry, roughly 10mm wide, is the tiny foundation of our world. A world that serves over 500 billion cups a year. A world that provides employment for hundreds of millions of people throughout the globe. A world organised around the second most sought after commodity. Our world. Our Coffee World is such an impossibly massive thing to behold and there it is, balanced so perfectly upon the tiny 10mm wide foundation of a coffee cherry & all encompassed in Dublin in the RDS from the 23rd – 25th of June.
The entire coffee would will descend on Dublin for the World of Coffee Festival & the World Barista Championships, the world’s most highly anticipated gathering of the global coffee community. Over ten thousand coffee enthusiasts from over one hundred countries are expected to arrive upon the RDS in Ballsbridge to experience the best and brightest the Coffee Industry has to offer.
Ireland may initially seem a funny choice to host the world’s most esteemed coffee festival, historically and culturally we’re tea drinkers. But since the turn of the millennium Ireland has been experiencing a coffee revolution; every week now it seems a new coffee shop is opening up in a previously unused space around Ireland.
Today we are home to some of the most innovative, passionate and downright talented coffee roasters going. Our roasters have really cracked it (get it?!), releasing the juiciest, freshest flavours that a ground bean simply has no right to taste like. Irish baristas are modern-day alchemists and the Irish people are rejoicing. Our national palette has matured beyond so many of our once more sophisticated friends across many different seas. We’re a nation of specialty coffee drinkers and we’re riding the coffee wave like pros.
Here at Java Republic, we are proud to play our part in the Irish coffee community. No one quite does community like the Irish, and soon no one will do coffee quite like us either. It’s a rapidly growing network of friends, inspiring each other to push the bean just that little bit further. A community fueled on coffee shop hopping, gentle slagging, Starbucks-slamming and coffee loving.
The World of Coffee Festival is our opportunity to show the world what we can do with a few beans, a grinder and a bucket load of expertise. We want every foreign visitor flying home thinking “F*&k me, those Irish can do Coffee.” And if they fly Aer Lingus, they can drink Java Republic all the way home.
Java Republic will be at the festival all week at Stand G18, in our element surrounded by coffee goodness. If you’re knocking through, and you definitely should be, you should come over and chat to us, experience our latest coffee blends, our world class range of Speciality Teas & we’ll have a couple of surprises in store too. Passion is infectious, and it’s a beautiful thing to behold. We want to tell you why we love coffee and we want to hear your reason too.
